Obituary of Gail P. Daignault

Please share a memory of Gail to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Gail Daignault of Waterford has gone to enjoy everlasting rest in the home of our Father’s love in heaven on  Tuesday August 9, 2022.  Top of FormBorn in Troy, she was the daughter of the late Emerson McCullen and Anita Goodness McCullen both of Waterford.  She was married to the late Roger Daignault of Cohoes.  Gail graduated from Waterford-Halfmoon High school in the Class of 1953. She was very athletic and enjoyed playing tennis, volleyball, and softball. After high school, she was employed at the Cohoes Envelope and New York Telephone Companies before she married in 1956, settled in Halfmoon, and started a family.  Gail also worked for a short time in the Shenendehowa High School cafeteria where the noise levels were similar to dinner at home.

She is survived by her children, Randy, Laurie (Late Bruce Bennett), Timothy, Errick, Larry (Linda), Steven, David (Candice), Darrin, Kimberly and Wendy; 10 grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Gail also leaves behind her sister Marsha Weiser of Florida and her brother Ronald McCullen (Deanna) of Connecticut.  Gail also leaves behind her beloved “fur baby”, Jolly.

She was a simple, grateful, quiet woman who enjoyed short drives, road trips, and later on in life, some longer travel. She enjoyed puzzles, playing cards, and collecting teddy bears. She loved to sing and dance around the kitchen to Engelbert Humperdinck while “cooking for the masses”. She loved her children, birds, family pets, and the overall beauty of nature.   But what separated this woman from the rest was that her life was never about her. She had no desire to be noticed or recognized. She was the epitome of selflessness. She spent the majority of her life as the sole caregiver for her first child, Randy; born a quadriplegic with Cerebral Palsy. Gail cared for him over 50 years until she was unable to carry him. While this alone was an endearing example of a mother’s love, she raised 9 more children along with him!

Gail’s unyielding faith in Jesus was rewarded with unfathomable levels of patience, courage, inner strength, and unconditional love: but perhaps her greatest gift was her unparalleled, seemingly divine ability to see the good in anyone effortlessly. Her compassion held no bounds. There are countless people blessed enough to be like rocks for others to lean on, and then there are others more like boulders; Gail was a diamond. The earth has lost an angel’s angel and heaven reclaimed a spectacular soul. She will be greatly missed.

As previously mentioned, Gail never wanted to draw attention to herself, consequently, she requested no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Catholic Charities of Albany or to Steve Capporizzo’s Pet Connection.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church in Crescent on Saturday 9/10/22 at 10:00 AM. Interment will be at St Mary’s Cemetery in Waterford.
