Rest in peace, Andy. You were a great husband, father, uncle, and son-in-law as well as great in the other roles you had in life. My grandparents drove me to California to visit my Uncle Andy and Aunt Dotty. It was a wonderful, week-long eye-opening trip (there and another week back)for an 8-year-old-- filled with stops at famous sites and unexpected thrills. Maybe the highlight of the trip was a visit to Disneyland (I can still show you the souvenir Disneyland map I picked up) but Andy also took us to Griffith Observatory-- and it was as close as you could get to the stars at that time. Another one of my first memories of my Uncle Andy was in the early '60s. Andy & Dotty were visiting North Bay from their home in California. Maybe I was 10 years old. Andy was working with Lockheed at that time. In answer to my question, Andy patiently explained to me how two-stage liquid-fuel rocket engines worked. I kept for years the rough drawing he made. That was Andy: loving, kind, and understanding to take seriously a question from a kid, and to patiently explain in a clear way. As a kid, he was the rare adult that you knew would take what you said seriously. In this way, Andy introduced me to science and space. A few years later I would be spending evenings in North Bay park, looking up at the moon and sky through a prized telescope. Uncle Andy was a role model to us. We were brought up understanding we would go to college, although our parents and grandparents had not that opportunity. Andy was the first relative we knew who had stepped into the same Camden High School system and gone on to college! Dotty and Andy were great as our Aunt and Uncle. It was upon their recommendation that I first read LORD OF THE RINGS-- in the late '60s, long before Hollywood jumped into the world of Tolkien. How super cool was that? After we lost Aunt Dotty, Andy didn't fade away as so often might happen. He doubled down and was a great support to my grandmother, Harriet. She appreciated Andy so much. Later, we would all owe Andy a great debt as he took special care of Harriet in her marvelous age past her 100th birthday. We saw the same special care that he took of his own father, George. Andy was a care-giver extraordinaire. I will also always cherish the time Andy and my cousins came to spend with me at my home in New Jersey. Andy and I talked over the years. Not as often as we would've liked, but each talk was as genuine and real as it was when I was a kid. I have only respect for the life of selfless devotion that Andy lived, with his obvious love of his family, his neighbors, his church, and even strangers. I can't imagine the pain of loss my cousins feel. Lora, Jodi, and Cathy...the loss of a parent is the most brutal emotional rip in the fabric of our lives. Yet your father is still with us-- if I can still hear his voice, his patient and understanding voice, I am sure you do, too. Love to all.

I'll never forget the time Andy, myself, Dave Boni and Andrew Boni visited the Battle of Oriskany site and Fort Stanwix. Andy had a deep appreciation for history (especially early US history) and we had discussed many times visiting these Revolutionary War era sites. It was quite special when we finally did. Also, I will cherish our conversations at Thanksgiving, Christmas and/or Easter get togethers. Indeed Andy's depth of knowledge on a range of topics always made our discussions interesting and educational (for me). Thank you Lord for bringing me together with the Boni (David) Family and Andy Cook.

Looking back on it, Uncle Andy has been an influential part of my life for almost as long as I can remember. As a young kid, Andy first taught me to play chess, which I still enjoy to this day. He also inspired my interest in the stars, constellations, and astronomy. One of my best memories as a youngster was traveling cross country with my grandparents to California to visit Aunt Dotty & Uncle Andy, where Andy worked as an Aeronautical Engineer for Lockheed. One of the highlights of the trip was a visit to Mt. Palomar Observatory where my interest in astronomy was further sparked. I’ll also never forget our trip to Chavez Ravine to watch the LA Dodgers play baseball, which was a big thrill for me. In more recent years, Uncle Andy was a tremendous support to my Grandma Harriet in her later years and regularly visited and helped her. For this, I will be eternally grateful. Uncle Andy was a man of faith and principles, which guided him throughout his life. He will be greatly missed and the impact that he had on my life, as well as others, is undeniable. As much as we will miss him, I am glad that he will finally be reunited with my Aunt Dotty, who I am sure has been patiently waiting for their reunion.

Jody, Cathy, Laura & Family, My sincerest condolences on Andy's passing. I was reminded of Uncle Andy recently when reading an old "Oh, The Placed You'll Go" book by Dr Seuss to my two boys. The inside cover read "Happy Birthday....To Scott, The girls always liked Dr Seuss books when they were young. Hope you like this new one. Love, Aunt Dottie and Uncle Andy", signed February 13, 1991. That's how I will remember Uncle Andy - as someone who was caring and thoughtful. A man who went above and beyond to support, care for, and help others. I'll fondly remember our afternoons together in Grandma Harriett's living room, listening to him tell stories of his life and his professional experiences. I'll remember him as a loving caretaker for Grandma Harriett. I'll remember the cards of encouragement he sent after big milestones throughout my childhood and my life. While I may never know all the places that I'll go, I can say for certain I'm better off for having walked part of the journey with Uncle Andy.
