Obituary of Lillian Maltais

Lillian Mazanti Maltais, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2026 at the age of 90, surrounded by her family. Cherished wife of the late James J. “Jim” Maltais for 61 years. Loving mother of Tracey (Dean) Sunkes and adored grandmother to Brandon Sunkes and Haley (Morgan) Butkus. Great Grandmother to Lainey & Sadie Butkus. Sister of the late Elsie (Sam) Adams. Sister in law of the late Arthur (Sophia) Maltais. 

Lillian was predeceased by her parents William K. and Laura K. Mazanti, both from Denmark. 

Born in Newark, NJ, she was raised in Lansingburgh. Lill was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School. She owned and operated the Glamourette Beauty Salon for over 30 years, retiring in 1990. She was later employed at Van Rensselaer Manor & Beverwyck Beauty Salons. Lill deeply loved her profession, finding joy in helping others look and feel their best.

Lill cherished countless spirited gatherings at their mountain retreat in Woodford, Vermont, which Jim built for their family, where her warmth as a host made everyone feel welcomed and special. Lillian was an avid reader, enjoyed golf, curling and staying active. She enjoyed traveling and visited over 54 countries. Lillian loved her husband Jim dearly, and the couple always knew how to have a good time, and be a good friend. Together they lived adventurously, in grace and generosity.

After retirement, they relocated to Indian Land, SC where they rescued her best friend and service dog  Jasper.

The family would like to show appreciation to the Staff of Van Rensselaer Manor, Unit A1 for the unending care and compassion for Lillian.

Calling hours will be held Friday, January 23, 2026 at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Avenue (corner of 115th Street in Lansingburgh) Troy, New York 12182 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. followed by a memorial at 1:30 p.m. and interment at St. John’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lillian’s name to The Alzheimer's Association or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
