Obituary of Michael P. Hipwell

Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Michael Patrick Hipwell, 45, of Halfmoon, was called home on Sunday, January 25, 2026, passing away at Samaritan Hospital in Troy. Though his time with us was far too brief, Mike lived with a quiet intensity and a boundless heart that centered entirely on his family and his community.

Born in Troy, NY, Mike was the cherished son of Barbara Testo Hipwell and the late Paul Hipwell. He grew up in the Brittonkill Central School District and graduated from Tamarac High School, Class of 1998. Those early years were defined by rhythm and grit—whether he was keeping time on the drums for the High School band or discovering his lifelong love for the ice with the Troy Youth Hockey club. He carried that same drive into his adult life, earning an Associate’s Degree from Hudson Valley Community College and building a career marked by relentless ambition.

Mike took immense pride in his professional growth, navigating the technology industry with a natural talent for leadership. He was a top performer at Raymour & Flanigan, Pitney Bowes, HERE Technologies, and most recently, Precisely. He didn't just meet goals; he shattered them, earning numerous awards while always quietly setting his sights on the next milestone.

However, Mike’s true legacy isn't found in a boardroom, but in the cold air of a hockey rink and the summer heat of a baseball diamond. His dedication to sports was fueled by a singular purpose: his sons. A fixture in the Clifton Park Youth Hockey community, Mike served as a dedicated Board Member and spent countless hours at the rink ensuring his boys had every opportunity to play the game he loved. His summers were spent at the fields with the Halfmoon and Clifton Park Youth Baseball clubs and the Tri-City Bombers, where he was always his sons’ biggest fan, cheering them on with a pride that was visible to everyone in the stands.

When he wasn’t at the rink or the field, Mike found his greatest peace on the golf course, teaching his boys the game or enjoying the company of his best buddies. He lived life at full throttle—whether dirt biking, four-wheeling, or managing the Swatling Falls fantasy football league, he was always ready for a friendly wager, believing that life, like sports, was best played with a little skin in the game.  A man of faith, Mike was a communicant of St. Edward the Confessor Church and a former member of the Knights of Columbus.

Above all, Mike was a family man. His 20-year marriage to Andrea N. Los Hipwell was a partnership built on unwavering love. As a father to Cole Patrick, Lucas Michael, Mason Paul, and Dylan Andrew, he showed up every day with unconditional support and kindness. He is also survived by his mother, Barbara; his siblings, Lisa (Michael) Williams and Christopher (Mary Alice) Hipwell; his in-laws, Michael and Deborah Los and Lisa and Sam Warner; and a wide circle of relatives and friends who will never forget the man they knew as Mike, Dad, Coach or "Fred."

The Hipwell family extends their profound thanks to the first responders from Clifton Park Halfmoon EMS, Halfmoon Fire, NYSP and Halfmoon Sheriff’s department for their swift and compassionate care.   Words cannot express how deeply grateful we are for the outpouring of love and support from our neighbors and friends.
