
Obituary of Mary Catherine Horgan
Mary Kay Horgan, 85, formerly of Ballston Lake, Utica and Old Forge, died peacefully at the Wesley Nursing Home in Saratoga Springs on April 25, 2026.
She was born on May 13, 1940, in Utica, NY, the daughter of the late Edward and Frances Horgan and the granddaughter of the late William and Catherine Sullivan Christy and the great granddaughter of Philip H. (Adirondack Guide) and Bridget Rivette Christy.
Mary is the sister of Edward (Patricia) Horgan of Ballston Lake; sister of Sheila (Richard) Vaeth of Webster, New York; sister of Lawrence (Nancy) Horgan of Victor, NY. She is survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She graduated from Blessed Sacrament Grade School, 1954 and Utica Catholic Academy, 1958. Mary Kay attended various colleges and universities while living in the religious community of the Daughters of Charity in Maryland, Connecticut and New York. At Saint Joseph College in Emmitsburg, Maryland she received a Bachelor of Arts, 1966, and at the College of Saint Rose Graduate School a Master of Arts, 1976 and was certified for professional practice as a Speech – Language Pathologist, 1977-2010, while working for the State of New York. She was involved in the education of her nieces and nephews; as having taught Finnly Horgan how to read when he was around 3 years old.
She was a communicant of Saint Edward the Confessor Church in Clifton Park; and was involved in the Catholic communities with rosary and prayer groups.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday May 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Edward the Confessor Church in Clifton Park, NY. Mass will be livestreamed at the following link:
