Obituary of Mary Ann Burns

Mary Ann Burns, 75, of Valley Falls, formerly of Troy, peacefully passed away on Wednesday,  April 29, 2026 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.           

Born in Albany, NY, she was the daughter of the late Walter J. and Isabel E. Lowell Burns and the lifelong companion to the late Robert Darmetko.She was a student of Lansingburgh High School.

Mary Ann retired after over 31 years from New York State Department of Motor Vehicles in Albany where she was a Title Clerk.

Her hobbies and interests included spending time outdoors soaking up the sunshine, fishing, admiring beautiful race horses while Bob gambled, karaoke nights full of dancing, and above all loved quality time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Beloved mother to Lisa (John) Gela and the late John (Jennifer) Burns; sister of Barbara Burns and the late James Burns; cherished “Nan” to her loving grandchildren Nichole (Thomas Jr.) Mercer, Jordan (Alexis Whalen) Burns and Jaden Burns; adored “Nanny” to her great grandchildren Avery and Roman; treasured by nieces and nephews Michelle (Ken) Domey, Kerry (Michael) Fitch, Scott (Betty) Vandenburgh, Darin (Jessie) Vandenburgh, Brandy Vandenburgh, and Jamie Vandenburgh; as well as several great nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to Calling Hours on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and to the Funeral Service that evening at 6:00 p.m. at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Avenue (at the corner of 115^th Street in Lansingburgh) Troy, NY 12182.

Those desiring, may make memorial contributions to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society at 3 Oakland Ave, Menands, NY, 12204, in memory of Mary Ann Burns.
