Obituary of James O. Bodenstab

Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bodenstab, James O., 70, entered into eternal life suddenly on Sunday, April 26, 2020 at home. Born in Troy, he was the oldest son of Maria (Hirschmann) Bodenstab who recently predeceased him. He was educated at St. Mary’s School in Troy and Troy High School. Jim honorably served in the US. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War era and was discharged as a Sergeant. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Mast, Rifle Expert Badge, Pistol Sharpshooter Badge and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a proud Marine and patriot who loved his country and believed that with enough hard work and dedication you could accomplish any goal. Jim (“Bobo” to those who worked with him) retired in 2014 from Momentive Performance Materials in Waterford and their predecessor, GE Silicones for over 25 years. He began as a chemical operator and advanced to a Craftsman Machine Repairman until his retirement. He was a member of the Hazmat Brigade, and in between breaking in rookies, he fixed whatever needed fixing. He was past Governor and lifetime member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, and member of the Eastern Lake Ontario Salmon & Trout Association. Jim enjoyed reading, politics, solitaire and history and cherished many years of family gatherings at home. His passion was for fishing, in particular, he loved trolling on Lake Ontario with his pilot Captain Ron Morrelli. To his family and those who knew him best, he was the finest handyman who could conquer any job or task put in front of him. He was “Bob the Builder.” Jim was the loving husband of Mary (Cossack) and devoted father of Kristina (Scott), Allen (Ryan) and Melissa (Jen), cherished grandfather of Lance, Kristopher, Lia, William and Amelia. He is survived by loving brothers John (Patty) and Joseph and was predeceased by his brother Allen. He treasured his extended family; Sandra, David, Peter, Tom (Daddy Warbucks), Alice, John, Nancy, Linda, Dennis, Freddie and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was grateful to them for their love, help and support over the years, especially most recently. Relatives and friends are invited to join Jim's family for his Mass of Christian Burial at St. Augustine’s Church, Lansingburgh on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. which will be followed by burial with U.S. Marine Corps honors at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Troy. For those attending, per the current guidelines, a maximum of 75 persons are able to attend the Mass. Facial covering and social distancing of six feet at the Church is required.
