Obituary of Glenn C. Relyea

Please share a memory of Glenn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Glenn C. Relyea passed away at the age of 77, Friday December 17th 2021 at home surrounded by his family. Glenn was born and raised in Glens Falls, NY, the son of the late Jane C and James F. Relyea. He graduated from Glens Falls High School where he met the love of his life and future wife Cheryl Calhoun. He then graduated from Babson College in 3 years with an accounting/CPA degree and went on to become the youngest graduate from William & Mary Law School at that time. Upon graduation Glenn served as director of New York's Corporations Division until moving on to Prentice Hall Legal & Financial Services and then to forming his own business in NY & NJ. Glenn was an active member of IACA where he served as President in 1985. He was the legal editor for the Uniform Commercial Code Filing Guide working alongside his close friend of many years, Carl Ernst. We could go on and on but you get the point, he was a pretty smart and accomplished man.

Most importantly, our dad was a generous and kind person, he was an amazing husband to our mom, and an unconditional supportive father to his children. He provided his family with everything they could have ever wanted. A wonderful home to grow up in, filled with amazing memories that will last a lifetime. Every snowfall our great neighbors were treated to the sounds of the loudest snow blower to ever exist, and he would get out there at 5am. This thing was our Christmas Story furnace, he refused to get a new one, there must have been 10 rolls of duct tape on that thing when it finally stopped working. Our springer spaniel Gibson who would go down to the driveway every morning to get the paper and then proceed to go to the neighbors to get theirs as well. Summers at the Nubble, weekends skiing at Stratton in the winter, family gatherings at the house, the list goes on and on; we were so fortunate to have such an amazing man as our dad. He was an avid golfer and had 7 am tee times at the Sagamore every Saturday & Sunday for many years. Afternoons up at the turf terrace watching the horses run and donating money to NYRA. More recently we spent time with family in New Brunswick, Canada and vacationed in Wrighstville Beach where he loved being surrounded by his family, watching his beautiful granddaughters play on the beach, steaks on the grill, listening to the ocean, and a Johnny Walker in hand.

Glenn Relyea is survived by his three children, James F Relyea II (Tara), Wilmington, NC Michelle R. McLaughlin (Tim) of Clifton Park and Gregory S Relyea of Clifton Park, his sister, Janice Relyea, Leland, NC who he has always shared such a special bond with no matter how many miles separated them. The apple of his eye, his two beautiful, smart, funny and kind granddaughters Evie Relyea & Emma Relyea McLaughlin. His beloved mother-in-law Vivian Calhoun, Saint John, NB who he has always kept of very special relationship with. Many nieces and nephews that he loved spending time with.

Glenn was predeceased by his wife of 30 years, Cheryl C Relyea, his parents James F. & Jane C. Relyea. His sister-in-law Diane (Calhoun) Pearson, and brother-in-law Elbridge (Al) Calhoun.

We would like to thank all of the amazing staff at Samaritan Hospital for their care during our father’s illness. 5th floor surgical unit -you all are amazing & Dr Yusuf Silk and Dan, the NP provided top notch care, always called us with any updates, and spent a lot of time explaining everything along the way.

The family will be spending this holiday season reminiscing all of the amazing memories we have and will have a celebration of life when travel becomes safer for all.
