Obituary of Robert John Manion
Robert J. Manion, 74, of Clifton Park, NY, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2023. Robert was born on November 27, 1948 in Utica, NY to Robert N. and Rose (Foster) Manion. He served his country proudly as a United States Marine in Vietnam, earning a purple heart. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Siena College, and later helped his fellow amputees when he became the Chief of Prosthetics at the Stratton V.A. Medical Center. An avid baseball player in his youth (and forever a New York Yankee fan), Robert discovered his second passion of golf, which he parlayed into Hall of Fame honors at the Edison Club.
Robert is survived by his former wife Kathy M. Holtz; their three children: Sean Manion, Kelly (Matt) Kaplan and Hilary M. (Kyle) Joslin; two grandchildren: Jordyn and Colby Kaplan; his brother Frank (Diane) Manion; his sister Betty (Bill) Longhurst; his brother-in-arms Jack “Doc” Cassidy; his brother from another William “Billy” Hooper; as well as countless other family and friends.
Calling hours will be from 4-6 pm Sunday in the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt. 9 Clifton Park, NY 12065.
Funeral with full military honors will be on Monday at 2:00 pm in the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY.
