Obituary of Howard G. Smith

Howard G. Smith, 65, of Melrose, passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2023.

 

Born in Troy, NY, he was the son of the late Warren and Jean Stewart Smith and was a graduate of Tamarac High School.

 

He received his Honorable Discharge from the United States Air Force.

 

Mr. Smith had been self employed as a truck driver.

 

He loved computers and gaming.

 

Beloved father of April L. Hayes (John Closson), brother of Sharon Smith and the late Peter O. Smith, Uncle of  Amie Welch, who was like another daughter to him, Jeremy and his wife Savanna Varieur, Shawn Varieur, Jamie Varieur, Peter Smith and Cassandra Smith and six grandchildren.

 

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Avenue, Troy, NY 12182 (at the corner of 115th Street in Lansingburgh). Reflections and a Prayer will be offered at 3:00 p.m. that afternoon in the funeral home.

 

Interment with full military honors will be held on Friday, July 14, 2023 at 12:30 p.m. at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville, NY 12871. Those attending are asked to please gather between 12:05 p.m. and 12:25 p.m. on Friday, in your vehicles on the right side shoulder inside the cemetery entrance).

 

Those desiring, may make memorial contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516 in memory of Howard G. Smith.
