Obituary of Joseph F. Mancinelli

Please share a memory of Joseph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joseph F. “Joe” Mancinelli, 86, of Troy, beloved husband for 63 years of Joan B. Mauriello Mancinelli, peacefully entered eternal life, surrounded and in the loving comfort of his family on August 8, 2023.

Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Anthony and Anunciata “Nancy” Colarusso Mancinelli and was a graduate of Troy’s St. Peter’s Academy and LaSalle Institute.

Joe retired from Rensselaer County where he served as Commissioner of Employment and Training Services (Manpower). Previously, Joe was a second-generation owner of Mancinelli’s Luncheonette along with his brother Anthony “Tony/Dinny” Mancinelli. Many locals have fond memories of going to this Troy landmark in the 1960’s. In retirement, Joe always loved getting together with his longtime buddies for lunch and kept his pulse on whatever was going on.

Joe was an avid fan of thoroughbred racing and for over 60 years, he never missed an “Opening Day at The Track” in Saratoga. He also loved to play cards, his daily lottery, visits to the casino, as well as a sporting event wager. Playing Bocce and Horseshoes were also a favorite of Joe’s, especially when he could beat all the grandkids. Joe and Joan enjoyed traveling with their family and friends. More than anything else, Joe immensely loved his family.

Joe was a member of the Italian Community Center in Troy, the BPOE #141 Troy Lodge of Elks and the Rensselaer County Republican Committee. He was a communicant of the former St. Paul the Apostle Church and the former St. Mary’s Church on Washington Park.

Beloved husband of Joan, devoted father of Joseph “Joe” (Chris) Mancinelli and John  (Andrea “Ange”) Mancinelli, cherished grandfather of Danielle (Joey) Ziter, Erica Mancinelli, Carey (Brian) Moulton, Jaclyn (Tim) Larkin, Nicholas “Nick” (Lee Church) Mancinelli and Amanda (Jim) Nichols, adored great grandfather of Isabella, Giada, Luca, Riley, Addie and Dylan, brother of the late Anthony “Dinny” Mancinelli, brother-in-law of Sharon (late, Bob) Kaminski, Jeffrey Mauriello and the late Salvatore “Butch” (late, Shirley) Mauriello. He is also survived by Joan’s dear cousin and friend, Gail (late, Sammy) Bizzarro and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and their families.

Relatives and friends are invited to Calling Hours at the Morris-Stebbins-Miner & Sanvidge Funeral Home, 312 Hoosick Street, Troy, NY 12180 on Friday, August 11 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Funeral Service will follow at the funeral home at 5:30 p.m. Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life reception at 6:00 p.m. at Ryan’s Wake, 403 River Street, Troy.

The Mancinelli family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the amazing staff at St Peter’s Hospital Hospice, as well as Dr. John Phelan and staff at New York Oncology Hematology. They also send special thanks and love to Joe’s daughter-in-law, Andrea “Ange” Mancinelli for her unwavering support, dedication, and care during Joe’s illness.
