Obituary of Margaret M. McDonough

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Margaret (Peggy) M. McDonough, 90, of Waterford, entered eternal life surrounded by her loving children at home on Saturday, August 19th, 2023.

She was born in Albany, the oldest daughter of the late Anthony and Angeline (Fusco) Mazzone. She was a graduate of Phillip Schuyler High School. After high school, she worked for American Meter Company. She married the love of her life, Harry J. McDonough Jr. on September 12th, 1954 and began their life together. After her marriage, she would work with her father in different businesses - bakery, auto garage and a Christmas tree lot. In 1970 they took the biggest gamble of their lives and bought a run-down motel and laundromat in Round Lake, NY. They worked hard at restoring the business and making it a success. They were the proud owners and operators of the Chamber Lane Motel for 40 years.

Peg’s family was her greatest joy. She lived life on her own terms and had no regrets. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, attending sporting events, recitals and offering her sage wisdom to all. She loved the game of Scrabble and played with everyone, usually winning. She and her husband had a retirement home in Clearwater, Florida for many years. They enjoyed going to the beaches, flea markets, garage sales and of course hitting the casinos and Tampa Downs for some excitement.

She was a member and communicant of Corpus Christi Church.

Beloved wife of the late Harry J. McDonough Jr., devoted mother of Harry “Maya” (Maggie) McDonough, Peggy (Robert) Lowen, Laura (Glen) Zampino and Anthony McDonough. Sister of the late Louis Fiorino, the late Theresa Conley and Frederick (Joanne) Mazzone of Colonie, also survived by Brother-In-Law, Joe Conley and 8 grandchildren, (Katie, Alyssa, Sean, Matthew, Heather, Christoper, Tia and T.J.), 7 great grandchildren (Elliot, Cameron, Charlie, Jackson, Jameson, Lily and Guilliana) and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to visitation on Friday, August 25, 2023 from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt. 9 Clifton Park, NY 12065 and to her mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at Corpus Christi Church, 2001 Ushers Rd., Round Lake, NY.

Interment will be in the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd. Schuylerville at 1:00 pm.
