Obituary of Stephanie Karmazyn
Stephanie Karmazyn, 99, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at the Eddy Village Green House 14 in Cohoes.
Born in Watervliet, NY on January 9, 1924, she was the daughter of Damian and Matrona (Hudak) Karpiak. Stephanie was a graduate of Averill Park High School. She attended Troy Business College, leaving to work at the Watervliet Arsenal for 4 years while 6 of her brothers served during World War II. She worked for the New York Central Railroad for 4 years and late for the Greenwich & Johnsonville Railroad for 24 years.
Stephanie was a member of the Chapel Community at the Holy Wisdom Church at New Skete Monastery in Cambridge, NY.
Stephanie enjoyed life fully by golfing, swimming and traveling. She was also an avid New York Yankees fan.
Stephanie was predeceased by her beloved husband of 67 years C. Philip Karmazyn on October 22, 2014, her loving sisters Zinovia, Pauline and Mary and brothers Peter, twins Michael and Paul, Prof. Walter, Daniel, John, Nicholas, Harry, Basil and David, devoted niece Pamela and great nephew Nicholas.
Stephanie is survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and great great-nieces and great great-nephews.
Stephanie will be remembered as a very giving person who loved everyone she knew.
In accordance with her wishes, services by New Skete will be private and at the convenience of the family.
There will be no public calling hours.
Interment will be private at St. Basil’s Cemetery in Watervliet, NY.
Stephanie felt blessed to have had earth angels who allowed her to remain in her home for several years. The family would like to thank the entire staff of House 14 at The Eddy Village Green for the outstanding care and love that was given to Stephanie while she was an elder there.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Stephanie’s name may be made to the New Skete Monastery, P.O. Box 128, Cambridge, NY 12816 or to the Staff Enrichment Fund at The Eddy Village Green, 200 Village Green Way, Cohoes, NY 12047.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted by the family to the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 RT-9, Clifton Park, NY 12065.
