Obituary of Marie G. Turone

Please share a memory of Marie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Marie (Giambrone) Turone, 94, of Clifton Park, NY, beloved wife of the late Theodore J. Turone, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2024. Born in Buffalo, NY, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Concetta Giambrone.

Marie graduated from high school in Buffalo. She went on to graduate from the State University College for Teachers at Buffalo with a Bachelor of Science to teach the partially sighted. It was when teaching at Niagara Street Elementary School in Niagara Falls, NY, that she met the love of her life, Theodore (Ted). Marie and Ted were married on January 16, 1954, in Buffalo. They would spend 63 wonderful years together prior to Ted’s passing in 2017.

Marie was a homemaker for the majority of her life. She and Ted raised a family of four children. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother with a beautiful smile and contagious laugh. Marie had a lifelong love of opera, ballet and classical music. She shared these passions with her family, filling the house with song and attending live performances with them. As Marie’s children became more independent, she was able to participate in the athletic pursuits she adored, taking up both golf and tennis. Marie played both singles and doubles tennis and was rated as an A player in the Schenectady League. She and the family traveled widely through the United States and Canada. Later, she and Ted traveled through Europe. Her quieter hobbies included sewing, knitting, crocheting, embroidering and cooking up a storm. These skills were taught to her children. In the latter part of Marie’s life, she was enchanted by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved them dearly. She will forever be cherished and missed by those she leaves behind.

Marie is survived by her four children: Kathryn (Michael Aikey) Schechtman-Aikey, David (John Peek) Turone, Joann (Richard) Tomaszewski and MaryAnn (Brian) Benson; seven grandchildren: Daniel (Christina) Schechtman, Lara Schechtman, Elizabeth (Pat Dixon) Tomaszewski, Annamaria (Alexis) Colon Ortiz, Andrew (Caitlin) Benson, Christopher (Briana) Benson, and Erin (Dan) Sacks; seven great-grandchildren: Samuel, Artemis, Owen, Isla, Oliver,  Zoey and Nina ; as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her late husband and parents, Marie was predeceased by her brother, Fred Giambrone, and many members of her extended family.
