Obituary of Teresa M. Gilhooley

Teresa M. Gilhooley, 98, of Troy passed away peacefully on Friday Sept. 27, 2024 at her home with her family by her side. 

She was born in Troy on Oct. 2, 1925 and was the daughter of the late John and Frances Jez Guskie.  She was the beloved wife of the late Donald J. Gilhooley. 

Teresa retired in 1987 from the accounting service for Rensselaer County Dept. of Social Services in the intake unit after many years of service.  She had been an active communicant of St. Augustine’s Church in Lansingburgh.  She was a member of their Sacred Heart Sodality, the Altar Rosary Society and the Mother’s Club.  She was a Life member of the DAV Auxiliary, The Troy Chapter AARP, the National Arthritis Foundation, Friends of the Troy Public Library, Women of the Moose, Society of Seton Health, Friends of Prospect Park and St. Bonaventure Indian Mission and School.

She is the devoted mother of Christine Bills Rem (Michael Dellavalle) and Cathleen A. Hamel; sister of John Guskie and the late William, Elizabeth, Theodore, and Joseph Guskie, Nancy VanAmburgh, Adelaide Gibbons and Sophie Krause; cherished grandmother of Thomas J. Bills (Laura), Joshua D. Bills, Joseph A. Bills and Jessica L. Hamel; great grandmother of Thomas J. Bills, III, Claire C. Bills, Brian J. Bills, Colin J. Bills, Madelyn R. Bills, Sa’Ryiah D.R. Myers and Elijah R.D. Brunson; also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held on Friday Oct. 4, 2024 at 9:30 am at St. Augustine’s Church, 25-115^th Street Troy, NY 12182 where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Calling hours will be from 4-8 pm Thursday October 3, 2024, in the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 4^th Avenue Troy, NY 12182 (Corner of 115^th St. & 4^th Avenue in Lansingburgh)

Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Troy.
