Obituary of Cornelius C. Thomas
Cornelius C. Thomas, 96, of Wynantskill and formerly of Sixth Avenue in Troy, peacefully entered into eternal life surrounded by his loving family at home on Friday, November 8, 2024.
Mr. Thomas born in St. Lucia, West Indies and was the son of the late Fitz and Rosetta Thomas and was the beloved husband to Phyllis Eileen Arthur Thomas who passed away on February 11, 1995. He was educated in Barbados and came to the U.S. in 1972, residing in Troy.
He retired from Star Textile in Albany and had also worked in the Cohoes location.
Mr. Thomas loved playing the keyboards, liked watching 60 Minutes, walking and to ride bikes, was a devout Catholic, enjoyed going to the beach and swimming, was a communicant and very involved in parish activities at the former St. Peter’s Church in Troy and currently at St. Anthony of Padua Shrine Church in Troy.
Devoted father of Patrick (Martha) Thomas, Debra A Skeen and Denise Miller, cherished grandfather of Natasha Miller, Lindsay Thomas, Erica Thomas, Noah Thomas, Elijah and Isaiah Thomas, Mariah Thomas, Leah Thomas, Nate Berkley and Ty Jones, step grandfather of Ashlee Riley, brother of the late Cynthia Edwin and the late Anne Marie Thomas, also survived by 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held on Wednesday morning at 8:45 a.m. from the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Avenue (at the corner of 115th St. in Lansingburgh), Troy, NY 12182 thence to St. Anthony of Padua Shrine Church, 28 State St., Troy, NY 12180 where at 9:30 a.m. the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Relatives and friends are invited to Calling Hours at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Interment will be held in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Troy following the funeral mass.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Community Hospice of Rensselaer for their loving and compassionate care to Cornelius and their family.
