Obituary of Darlene Ann Buttimer

Mrs. Darlene A. (Gelfuso) Buttimer, aged 55, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Ellis Hospital, after a brief battle with cancer. Her adoring children remained by her side during her final days on Earth.  Born in Utica, NY on November 4th, 1961, Darlene was the daughter of the late Thomas R. Gelfuso and Vincenza P. (Angrisano) Gelfuso. On February 14, 1986, Darlene married the love of her life, the late Stephen F. Buttimer, in a small ceremony surrounded by family and friends.

An avid reader and lover of sports, Darlene adored her job interacting with students while serving as a secretary in the counseling office at Shenendehowa Central School District. Darlene took great pride in raising her children and considered the establishment of her strong and committed family to be the greatest accomplishment of her life.

Darlene is survived by several brothers and sisters, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and friends and neighbors. Most importantly, she will be cherished by her three beautiful children, Matthew S. Buttimer, Lauren A. Buttimer, and J.T. Buttimer.

Per her wishes, a celebration of Darlene’s life will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2017  at the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt.  9, Clifton Park, NY 12065, with visitation hours from 4-8pm.  At the conclusion of the service, her children will take time to share their final respects. There will not be a funeral mass to follow, as Darlene desired to be laid to rest next to her beloved Stephen privately.
