Obituary of Anne H. Smith
Anne H. Smith, 95, of Ballston Lake quietly passed away on Tuesday Nov. 14, 2017 at the Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs. She was born in Greensboro, NC, to deceased parents John Benson and Anna Powers Humphrey and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1998, she and her husband moved to Ballston Lake, NY to be closer to family. She was married for 60 years to John Joseph Smith, who passed away in 2001. The workforce found her as Business Education Teacher and as an employee of the business sector, retiring at age 72. At an early age in life, she was recognized as a strong willed individual who faced life’s challenge as an achiever and survivor. She was an advocate of continuing education and believed strongly that the best and most important education was our interactions with our fellow man. She was known and respected for her wisdom and gave of her time and talents to her church as well as many local civic, professional and social organizations. She was a member of the Jonesville United Methodist Church.
She is the mother of John (Nancy) McGowan of Ballston Lake and grandmother of Clint (Ashley) McGowan, Ryan McGowan and the late Katy (Luigi Straccia) McGowan ; great grandmother of Marina Straccia; sister of Mary Louise (Bob) Kruelle of Maryland; also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held on Wed. Nov. 29, 2017 at 11:00 am in the Jonesville United Methodist Church, 963 Main Street Jonesville, Clifton Park, NY 12065 with Pastor Youngjae Jee, officiating. Following the service there will be a luncheon reception in the Church Fellowship Hall where family members can personally greet friends. If you plan to attend the luncheon, please call the church office prior to Sat. Nov. 25th. at 518-877-7332.
Interment will be in the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at 2:00 pm following the luncheon.
Arrangements have been entrusted by the family to the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt. 9 Clifton Park, NY 12065.
