James R. "Jim" Slocum, 72, of Troy, beloved husband of over 50 years of Mary (Glynn) Slocum of Troy, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, October 12, 2016. Born and raised in Troy, he was the son of the late Edward and Lillian Powley Slocum and was a graduate of Troy High School, Class of 1962. Jim served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Menands VFW. He recently retired after a 40+ year career from Price Chopper in Brunswick where he was Produce Manager. He was passionate about his dogs, was a great cook, had a great sense of humor, and his neighbors will remember him most for driving his truck around the neighborhood nightly enjoying his cigars and serving as the unofficial "neighborhood watch". Most of all he loved his wife, children and grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Jim is also survived by his children Karen Slocum of Phoenix, AZ and Trish Slocum of Somers, CT, brother of LouAnn Behrens of Brunswick and Patricia (Richard) Goyer of Averill Park, NY and the late Elaine Bisner and Jeanne Pratt, cherished grandfather of McKenzie, Ryan, Grace, Maggie and Georgia, brother-in-law of Merilyn Schreader, Catherine (Dan) Brennan and Eileen (Richard) Gear, also survived by several nieces and nephews.
