Obituary of Jean Ann St. Andrews

Please share a memory of Jean to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Jean Ann St. Andrews of Ballston Lake passed away peacefully at Samaritan Hospital on July 14, 2023 at the age of 77, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

Jean was born and raised in Ogdensburg, NY and later moved to Canton, NY.  Jean was predeceased by her mother Mary Waite, father Charles Lovely and her brother Charles Lovely Jr.

Jean leaves behind her husband of 47 years, Roy St. Andrews, her sister Marie Mundy-Storms, her five daughters and their spouses Hope Ann Bailey (Brian) of Laconia, NH, Roxanne Sherman (Devonn) of Cohoes, NY, Suzanne Vortman (Cor) of Ballston Lake, NY, Marcianne Murphy (Scott) of Mechanicville, NY, and Jaceyanne LaShomb (Chris) of Galway, NY.  Jean also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren Jordan and Conner Bailey and Conner’s wife Kristin, Drew, Brynn and Graham Murphy, Jarred, Brooke, Kennedy and Rylee LaShomb, and several nieces and nephews.

Jean was a longtime resident of Canton, NY where she ran a daycare for many years, and helped raise several generations of local children. Jean also believed in service to her church, the United Methodist Church of Canton, and her community.  At church she served as Superintendent of Sunday School, and was always lending a hand at church dinners, food delivery, holiday plays and other special events.  Jean was actively involved in her community in the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and Chairwoman of the Fresh Air Fund bringing underprivileged children from New York City to Canton for the summer.

After retirement Jean and Roy moved to Ballston Lake to be near their children and grandchildren, but also had a winter retreat in Wauchula, Florida, where they also had many friends.  Even with all these activities to keep her busy, Jean was truly at her happiest just sitting in a chair surrounded by all her children and grandchildren. Jean was the matriarch of the family, lovingly called Teeta by all the grandchildren, and she will be terribly missed by all.

A celebration of life will be held Monday, August 21, 2023 at Lawrence Funeral Home, 21 Park Street, Canton, NY 13617.

Calling hours are from 2-4 pm, followed by a private family celebration from 4-5 pm.

Jean will be laid to rest with family at Fairview Cemetery in Canton, NY.
